Cease Striving

My dearest friends,

In the midst of the adoption, I was starting my 3rd round of Clomid post-surgery (first week of March). We were entering our 58th month of infertility, and Kevin and I made the decision to cease our focused efforts on conceiving. We looked each other in the eye and said, “We’re done.” I told him I was so done with artificial hormones and invasive doctor’s appointments and conversations about what step we’re going to take next. Kevin said, “The doctors have had their say, it’s time for God to have his.

Another cycle came and went. I wasn’t really all that disappointed. It was expected.

Over the next few days, I began resigning myself to childlessness. I wanted to transition my focus of emotional energy and time on this desire for children, when God has many ministry opportunities for me to turn my attention.

I am so thankful for each of you. You have bolstered me every step of the way, many of you from the beginning – June 2010. You remember me, you pursue me, you pray for me. I am so blessed.

On Sunday, April 26th, Kevin went to a extra community band rehearsal at the college and on a gut feeling I took a pregnancy test. (yes, 10 days after my supposed cycle). And instantly those two little strips lit up bright pink.

Monday, Apri 27th I had blood work done, confirming the pregnancy (and having super high progesterone levels to sustain the pregnancy until the placenta takes over), and on Wednesday I had an ultrasound confirming that the pregnancy is in fact in the uterus and not in the tubes.

Look at that cute little dot!

I AM PREGNANT! Kevin and I are going to have a baby and the due date is December 25th!

He gives the barren woman a home,
making her the joyous mother of children.
Praise the Lord!

God has certainly blessed you both! I wondered when you said you were feeling ill if maybe you were expecting. I am truly so happy for you both. You will be super parents. The day you did you first test was my husbands birthday and now your little one is expected on Christ’s Birthday! How wonderful! You have made my Mother’s day so happy! God Bless you both ( I mean all three of you)! Cathy B

    • Thank you so much, Cathy! We truly appreciate your love and care for us. Can’t wait to come back to choir 6 months pregnant! :) I actually do have bronchitis (temp has been 101, aches, awful cough) but being pregnant totally makes up for it! :D

  2. I will hold onto my chair to prevent myself floating into the air from excitement. Actually, instead, I’ll get up & write your name on my prayer list posted in the kitchen. (I just had “cousins” in general written there.) Congratulations!! It’s so appropriate to be reading this on Mother’s Day.

    Melanie –
You dont know me but I stumbled on to your blog a long time ago when I was on a freind’s blog… I have been following your story ever since. We have youth education in common (I am a high school chemistry tutor), but in several other ways we are very different. I have two children, ages 1 and 4. I wanted to tell you that I am sooooo happy for you! You are going to make a wonderful mom! My heart breaks whenever I hear about a couple having a hard time getting pregnant (I have a co-worker going through something similar)…. it is hard to understand why it is easy for some and soooo hard for others. I hope you keep updating your blog, even when your days become consumed with your new addition. You have a way with words, and I enjoy reading them. Maybe we can share parenting advice sometime! I am passionate about breastfeeding! If you have any questions about that maybe we can email sometime! Again, I am so happy for you and I wish you all the best with your growing baby bump!

I so wish I could have been in heaven when they were preparing and planning your surprise! They must have been buzzing, stopping now and then to do the happy dance, shushing in case you overheard, and giggling to imagine your reactions. When I get to heaven, I want to be on the Baby Surprise Committee!
